Lightening the Home for Spring

Posted

Spring isn’t quite here, but it is time to start freshening up the home and preparing for spring décor. Yes, this may involve a little spring cleaning, but then comes the fun part…picking out spring décor. Don’t forget these spring touches when you start:

1. Flowers

April showers bring May flowers, but that does not mean you cannot put living flowers in the home a little early. Bring out the vases and head to the grocery store. Their year round flower selection will get you a head start on spring. If you aren’t into replacing flowers regularly, invest in quality faux flowers…and keep them dusted. They will have a similar effect.

2. White

White blankets, pillows, and glassware bring light colors into the room, and they prevent any dark spaces from looking dreary. Put away the maroons and forest greens of winter and break out the white! You won’t regret it.

3. Light

If you are thinking of painting, spring is the perfect time to lighten the walls. If you are doing some spring maintenance, consider replacing blinds or drapes with lighter versions. The darkness of winter can be swept away with purposeful and natural lighting solutions. Don’t forget about mirrors, especially if you don’t have a lot of access to natural light.

4. Topiary

Topiaries are simply cute additions to the home that bring in the greenery of spring. They are suitable alternatives to candles on a buffet, so they can frame areas quite nicely. Topiaries come in many shapes and sizes, so you don’t have to go with the same ol’ topiary you see in design magazines. There is a reason they are there though, so don’t discount them either.

5. Simplicity

Lastly, keep it simple. Do some spring cleaning and decluttering. Your snow gear can be put away, and all that Christmas STUFF can be hauled back to storage. It was fun while it lasted, but it will feel good to get your space back.

Spring is a new start to life, and it is a time to purge yourself of all excess and start with a clean slate. That sentiment should be shown throughout your decorating style, and bringing light décor and simple accessories into the mix match that goal perfectly.

Get out of the winter blues by getting started early on your spring decoration. Trust me, you are ready for it. We all are.
